Reiki
Reiki is a natural, spiritual, hands-on healing technique that helps your body achieve a more balanced state within the entire body. The physiological response that occurs is a balance between the sympathetic nervous system (this is our natural “fight or flight” response that increases levels of stress hormones in our blood stream) and the parasympathetic nervous system (this is our body’s recovery response after stressors and is a relaxation stage).
Modern day life has a lot of stressors that may keep our body in the flight response . When we have less stress hormone circulating in our blood, our own body’s immune system is powered more effectively to heal itself. There are many ways to support the body’ s immune system through a well balanced diet, good sleep, exercise, fun, and making healthy lifestyle choices such as routine Reiki treatments.
Reiki has its origins in Japan and came to the United States in the 1930s. It has many benefits on the physical, mental, and emotional levels. One may receive Reiki either sitting in a chair or laying on a massage table fully clothed. Each session is unique for each individual and most report feelings of warmth, deep relaxation, and an improved sense of well-being.
Reiki session: 60 minutes $45.00
Reflexology
Reflexology is a scientific practice and a therapeutic, healing art using a miniature map of the body that are reflected on the feet. Stimulating these reflex points with pressure on the feet create a response in a corresponding part of the body. It helps soothe the nervous system which promotes the body to relax and open up the circulatory processes. This in turn, improves the delivery of oxygen and nutrition to tissues as well as clearing waste build up in organs and tissues. .
The roots of modern day reflexology in the West were established by an American physician, Dr. William Fitzgerald. His therapy was further supported by his associate Dr. Edwin Bowers. In the 1930s, their work was followed by Eunice Ingham, a nurse and physiotherapist. Ingham expanded the physician’s ground work by applying her research and charting specific reflex points on the feet with the effects on the body.
Reflexology dates back to ancient Egyptian times. Hieroglyphics with instructional skills for reflexology were found in the tomb of an Egyptian physician.
During a session, your feet will be given full attention from top to bottom with varying massage and stretching techniques along with pressure to particular reflex points of the feet. A luscious, hydrating cream of shea butter and castor oil is used.
